I am not a Sagittarian, but knowing the importance of having water damage insurance, I asked for flood insurance to be added as a separate provision when I moved into my high-rise apartment. My agent laughed at me. “You live in Manhattan on the thirtieth floor….why do you need flood insurance?” I persisted and said I wanted it, and I got it. As you may know, after years of living here without any problems with water, I had a small flood in April at home (not my fault). I am still dealing with moving out so my contractor can do the work without me here.

I had insurance for that apartment, but I also called the same insurance company to ask for separate renter’s insurance for the smaller apartment I will move into for a year in the same building. Next year I will move back to my larger apartment. The agent replied, “We no longer cover water damage. You do have it now, and it was grandfathered in with your present homeowner’s insurance, but I cannot give you a provision for water damage in your new renter’s insurance. We stopped covering that a few years ago. You have to go to one of our competitors for that.” Dear Sagittarius, I had no words when I heard that.
