A Note from Susan Miller
October is due to be a unique month that will not be easy for any of us. The planets will be in a frenzy, the likes of which I have rarely seen. If you feel you’ve seen enough surprises this year, I am sorry to report that there will be a slew of them in October. Warrior Mars is one of the prime instigators, but surprise-a-minute Uranus will play a leading part, too. Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury will stir the pot as well and add to the turmoil.
When the planets get this way, it is because they want to shake up the status quo and force us to confront languishing situations that many of us would prefer not to address. As you see, there is method in the planets’ madness. One thing you can rely on is that when planets are in harsh angle to each other, the universe brings enormous energy so that you can deal with what happens. Sweet aspects—trines and positive, happy conjunctions—are always prized, but they make us a little lazy. Squares and oppositions are the hard aspects, but they sure do bring high energy. The universe will always give you the tools you need when it brings you a challenge.
Your Horoscope by Susan Miller
We have a strong windstorm in store for October. It won’t only be swirling leaves of color whipped up in a sudden gust, it will be opinions, thoughts, feelings, messages, ideas, and maybe objects that take flight. It will be a month of unexpected developments coming toward us all with rapid force. It’s a month that on some days, it may feel hard to keep up with all the news coming at us. Each sign will have a smorgasbord of events to cope with that were not anticipated, so unexpected developments will keep us all on our toes. Let’s look closer to see what’s coming for you.
The month opens with a full moon on October 1 in Aries, 9 degrees. If you are married or in an established long-term relationship and live together, your mind will be on your romantic partner. If you are self-employed and have a business partner, agent, publicist, accountant, lawyer, or sponsor, or are doing a joint venture with another company, that partner will be on your mind rather than your romantic partner. How things play out depends on how your relationship has been going in the weeks and months leading to this important full moon. If your relationship has not been going well, this full moon will bring hidden feelings and information to the surface. If, in the case of a romantic relationship, things are wonderful and you both love each other, you may get engaged or married. This full moon will clarify your relationship in a very vivid way.
It appears there are a few crosscurrents going on at the same time, and one includes the opposition of Uranus to Mercury, and that aspect might bring an unanticipated expense at the full moon. Uranus tends to have a shock effect, so you may be taken aback by the expense. This sometimes happens in life, and alas, there is no getting around it.
In another part of your chart, the entire topic of where to live and whether to move now or later may be on your mind. Alternatively, you may be thinking about how to improve your décor, and that seems to be a recurring theme and topic of discussion with your partner (if you live with a romantic partner). If that is not the question you are pondering, then discussions about family members—most likely a parent—who needs help will be up, and that could bring tension. If this is true for you, you may see progress on this matter after next year’s first new moon, January 12.
It seems that you and your partner, or you and your roommate, are not on the same page about how and where you’d ideally like to live. As you wait for January when your best opportunity to settle these topics will arise, keep searching for new ways that you and your partner can agree on your future living conditions or care for a certain relative.
At this full moon October 1, plus four days, there is something else interesting going on. Venus, still in Leo for a day at the start of the month (before heading to Virgo), has been quietly watching what’s going on with the full moon and the ruckus Mars will be causing in your committed partnership. Venus will always intervene when she feels she can create peace and harmony. On the same day as the full moon, she will contact her lover Mars in an effort to reason with him and gently remind him of their love and what is important in life. Venus will ask Mars not to be so gruff in her effort to lower his anger to manageable levels.
You will have one exceptional aspect this month, one that’s quite divine, and it comes from Neptune in communication with Jupiter on October 12. Neptune is currently touring your sixth house of creativity, and Jupiter is in your home sector. If you are designing a new décor for your home, you will now have an a chance to create beauty. The same is true if you are working on someone else’s home.
Venus is the planet of love and beauty, plus she’s your ruler, Libra, giving her extra strength here, so she can make an important difference to how this full moon plays out. Without Venus, the interaction between you and your partner could be more intense, but Venus will see that doesn’t happen. This is not to say this full moon will be exactly easy if you have had a difficult relationship with a partner in love or business—as said, a lot depends on how things were going before this full moon appears—but even in that case, a full moon will bring matters to a head so that a discussion will take place and a decision made. Getting everything out on the table will allow you both to move forward. While the full moon will put the spotlight on your partner and those with whom you have a serious one-on-one relationship, the coming new moon in Libra will shift the focus to your own needs and desires and what you need to be happy.
That new moon will arrive in Libra at 24 degrees on October 16 and will help to clarify what is vitally important to you. Again, the area of home and family will come up, and once more, Mars will be the perpetrator. Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn will tightly square the Sun and new moon in Libra, which might make you feel that you have too much work to do and too little time to get it all done. You may feel overwhelmed, and it’s clear you will need an extra pair of hands to help you. This aspect is hard to deal with, as a new moon sets up a trend for six months. It will be vital that you reach out for help now and not try to do it all by yourself. Ask family members or a close friend to assist you, and be open and honest. They likely won’t know how overburdened you feel if you don’t speak up.
Meanwhile, Mars in Aries will continue his dispute with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn in a 90-degree square. If you are trying to find a new apartment or house, you would do well to delay this hunt for the time being. See if you can work with your landlord to stay longer. As said, your first opening of opportunity in this arena will occur when the new moon appears on January 12.
The moon rules your career in your solar chart, so there may be shifts there too near the new moon October 16 and the days that follow. This is a new moon, so you might want to put feelers out, telling others that you would be interested in hearing about new career opportunities or part time work you can do on the side.
At the same time, Uranus will directly oppose Mercury in your second house of earned income, so finding the money to pay for all the expenses associated with a residential move may be a bridge too far for you right now. If you can stay where you are now, do. Conversely, if you need to help a relative who is currently in dire straits financially, ask for family support.
Mercury will start to retrograde in Scorpio on October 13 and by October 27 will slide backwards into Libra. Mercury will go direct on November 3. I feel you won’t have to wait that long to see progress. Shortly after November 3, you will see a rush of energy and progress.
Mars is still retrograde too, and won’t turn direct until November 13. It is never a good idea to launch a new product or service while Mars is out of phase. Wait to do so until next month. Mars teaches us how to excel and helps us in the process. However, Mars is languishing on the couch now, and trying to awaken him is hopeless. We are used to having his assistance, so you, like the rest of us, probably have taken his assistance for granted, but when it is not there, it’s surprising how hard it is to lift a new business or product off the ground and into the stratosphere.
The planets that we feel the most when retrograde are Venus, Mars and Mercury—as you see, we have two out of the three retrograde this month (Mars and Mercury).
In a month when none of the planets are getting along, the most challenging moment will come on October 31, ironically on Halloween. This will be a full moon in Taurus, 9 degrees, and will light your eighth house of other people’s money.
The problem with this full moon is that it will conjoin Uranus in Taurus, also at 9 degrees, and Uranus and the moon will both oppose the Sun in your second house of personal income, savings, and possessions. It seems a completely unexpected expense is coming. It might be a tax payment that your accountant underestimated, additional money that needs to be spent on a creative project, or an unexpected pregnancy and the doctor’s care you will need (but if this were to happen, it seems that you’d want to keep the baby). This house rules commissions as well, so your company could change the numbers you would have to meet before you get your commission, and not in a way that pleases you. A student loan may have to be paid quickly, or something else may come up.
At the same time, Mercury will have a row with Pluto and Saturn, so the news you hear (due to Mercury) will be that you’ll have to pay or incur hefty finance charges (Saturn, Pluto). At this time, Mercury will be in Libra, having slid back from Scorpio in retrograde, so it’s an expense that you seem to have been promised in the past (retrograde). I have listed some expenses to get you thinking about what it might be, but with Uranus, it is usually something you’d never have guessed.
This aspect happens once a year, and in politics, it’s called the October surprise, which this year’s comes October 31. Taurus is a money sign, so the markets might gyrate at this time. I should say, however, that October seems rife with surprises, and that is what makes this month so difficult.
I take no joy in delivering these aspects, and I promise that from November 13 onward, things will improve. I feel you should absolutely get assistance this month, for the stresses on you will be, as you see, considerable. If you are not getting along with your spouse, it’s likely because of outside pressures on you—I don’t feel there is anything wrong with your relationship. (Of course, I can’t see your entire chart from where I sit, but from what I can see, it seems strong, and any difficulties you might have now are temporary.)
Venus is now in Libra, a lovely place for Venus to be, not only because Venus is in your sign, but because Venus rules Libra, so she expresses her finest qualities easily and naturally. If you’re a woman who is Libra, consider buying some new makeup for the coming season. Men or women, think about asking your stylist about various ways you can wear your hair. If you feel you could use some new clothes, browse websites, especially for tops to wear on all those Zoom conferences that are coming up. Your birthday is coming, so you may be able to use some of the cash or gift cards you will be given.
You will have one exceptional aspect this month, one that’s quite divine, and it comes from Neptune in its home sign of Pisces in communication with Jupiter, the happiness planet. Neptune is the planet of imagination and creativity and will be in perfect sextile (denoting opportunity) to Jupiter. Neptune is currently touring your sixth house of creativity, and Jupiter is in your home sector. If you are designing a new décor for your home, you will now have an a chance to create beauty. The same is true if you are working on someone else’s home.
Thinking about this aspect, creative efforts or artistic expressions you are involved in should bring an enthusiastic response from your adoring audience. You may make good money from your creation, too. This runs the entire spectrum, from acting, music composition, any type of performance, film direction and set design, to costume design, makeup styling, art, photography, sculpture, and poetry. All the arts will benefit. Neptune and Jupiter have been in sync all year, going back to February 20, July 27, and this month, on October 12.
After this, Neptune and Jupiter will not communicate directly again until 2022.
One other date I will point out, coming very close to the date above is October 10 when your ruler Venus will receive a lovely, harmonious beam (trine) from Uranus. It’s not a time to travel, because Uranus will oppose Mercury (travel), so make a beautiful dinner for the one you love over this October 10-11 weekend. This weekend sparkles.
To you, dear Libra, having a happy, harmonious relationship is a paramount goal. Sometimes this is such a fervent goal for you that you will sacrifice your own needs and defer to your partner’s opinions to keep your union running smoothly. Don’t give up too much too often, though, for you may later feel you gave up too much.
This month starts out with a full moon in your seventh house of marriage and other committed alliances, so you may be getting engaged or married or drawing up papers to make official an alliance with a business associate, agent, publicist, or other specialist.
Mars has been circulating in your relationship house since June 27, so you may have found that your partner is moodier than usual, running hot and cold, and generally harder to get along with. This full moon of October 1 may help you sort out what’s been going on. Most likely, it’s changes in your partner’s life that are causing this, not you, so be understanding.
If you feel you and your partner are not suited for each other, and with Mars so strong this month, you could present divorce papers. This is a kind of extreme black-or-white, on-or-off, with-me-or-against-me kind of month. This full moon will likely bring some insight into your partner’s thinking to bear.
If you do have any difficulty getting along in a serious way, it may be that you and your partner disagree agree about money or a real estate matter, a move or purchase of a house, or how best to help a parent. If you hoped to have a parent live with you, your partner may not be in favor of that idea. Mars will be in sharp conflict with both Saturn and Pluto, so alternatively, it may be the costs involved with a renovation or the price that a buyer is willing to pay for a property you are selling.
Things might get more tense at the new moon in Libra on October 16, and Mars will still be attacking the same planets, namely Saturn and Pluto. You may be frustrated by the lack of progress you are seeing in several areas of your life, but if nothing is moving forward, as odd as this may sound, welcome the delays, for in this wild month, delays will benefit you. This would not be a month to take action. Here is a big reason why:
Mercury, the planet of agreements, will be retrograde from October 13 to November 3, and as you likely already know, Mars is also retrograde until November 13. If you sign a contract, it would only have to be renegotiated later. Stay as far away from the start and finish Mercury retrograde dates as you can, for that is when Mercury will be the strongest and most troublesome. Getting to accord with your partner in love or business will take time too, so cool your jets and be patient. Delays will benefit you.
In this not so easy month, we have another full moon, October 31, on Halloween. That full moon will be in Taurus and light your eighth house of finances—namely other people’s money. What makes this full moon tense is that Uranus, the planet of unpredictability, will be conjunct the moon, a tension-producing aspect. You may need to pay someone that you didn’t know would be required of you, or money you anticipated from someone won’t be sent to you. The other person may try to shirk their responsibility and may even contest the very need to pay you. Whatever news comes up will seem to come out of left field. Try as you might to be prepared for this, chances are you won’t be able to guess the type of news you’ll receive.
Admittedly, this will be a strenuous month for one and all of every sign. Still, difficult aspects during 180-degree oppositions and 90-degree squares help us to turn a corner. The universe gives you the tool that you need the most to deal with the challenges that it brings—fiercely high energy. This truth is worth repeating: Difficult aspects produce high energy. In contrast, easy, highly harmonious and generous trine aspects are soft, and sometimes we get lazy and don’t take full advantage of what’s being given. You need not work for the rewards they bring, and sometimes you could lack motivation to take full advantage of them. We generally gain substantially more from times of challenge .
At the end of the month, on October 27, Venus will move into Libra until November 21 for the first time this year. A bright month is coming, one that will be perfect for shopping, devoting yourself to a new look, and getting ready for romance. How sweet it will be when you can devote this time fully to yourself. Wait until Mercury goes direct on November 3 before you do any of these fun things. Mars will stop his retrograde November 13 when you will find looking forward, not backward, will be on the agenda with your partner, and plans will more easily fall into place. Better days are due, dear Libra, and I promise you that.
