Libra Horoscope for January 2023

Monthly News from Susan Miller

Dear Reader,

Happy New Year.

The day after Christmas I came down with terrible cold, so I spent the holidays inside recuperating and am now starting to feel better. I was so relived and grateful it was not COVID. Because I love to cook, I had made a big batch of chicken soup with many vegetables two months ago, and I have been living on that all week. I am so glad I have it.

I am excited to be back out at public events to speak and meet new people and reconnect with the ones I’ve met over the years. Unfortunately, because I’ve been sick, I had to cancel a few January appearances, including the special one on January 7 in Dallas, which is now rescheduled for February 18 in Dallas from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM with a lunch afterwards. At lunch I’ll be available to talk one-on-one and answer any questions you have. The topic will be the Year Ahead 2023, and I am honored to give the keynote speech

Life should feel good this month, totally unlike the difficult aspects of November and possibly of the month before, October. The planets are humming along in rare harmony. You were lucky that Mars chose to stay in Gemini such a long time—since August 20—and will remain in this highly compatible sign to Libra until March 25. However, Mars has been retrograde during part of this period, from October 30, but Mars will go direct on January 12.

If you felt that progress has been slow in your career, or other matters, you can blame Mars being out of phase. The same is true if you found executives hard to reach or indecisive. That will change dramatically now. Think of Mars as the planet that pours high octane fuel into your car, and when he is asleep on the couch, we all feel a bit stymied. No matter what you did to get ahead probably didn’t work too well. That all changes now.

Mercury, Mars’ little brother, is a clever little prankster. He looks up to Mars, so when little Mercury found Mars asleep on the comfy couch, he decided he would go retrograde and take a nap too on December 29. Mercury will go direct on January 18.

As you see, January will have a slow start. That’s OK—holidays can be extremely busy, so having some time to move at a leisurely pace may suit you perfectly. There is one possible exception to this rule of January having a slow start, and it has to do with the lovely full moon of January 6.

That full moon will be in Cancer, 16 degrees, on January 6 and will light your tenth house of honors, awards, and achievement. If you have been interviewing for a job, you may hear news about whether you got the job. Uranus will make a decisive, positive aspect to that full moon, so I am thinking you will like the news—and be quite surprised by it. Uranus is in your house of commissions and other performance-based income and will be in ideal angle to the Sun and moon. The Sun’s involvement suggests that a friend may be instrumental in helping you get the job. Certain industries are special for you at this full moon: hospitality (hotels), restaurants, foods, selling beautiful pots and pan and other items for the kitchen, maternity services, and stores that handle things that a new mother would need to care for her baby.

I cannot guarantee that you will get a job because I cannot see your unique chart from where I sit, but I do see that company benefits are generous, so if you lose a job, speak up for severance. If you are offered a job, speak up for health insurance, flex time, and other company benefits, but only at the appropriate time. You will know when it’s the right time (and not on the first interview, of course).

Let’s think positively because this an outstandingly helpful full moon that will give you closure on one career situation.

It won’t be a month that is all about career either—romance is coming in as a big trend, and it is one that you will love.

With the Sun, new moon, your ruler Venus, and Saturn in Aquarius, all squeezed into this romantic area of your chart, you will get invitations to be with friends to unwind and relax.

After Mars goes direct (January 12) and Mercury too (January 18) will come the new moon in Aquarius, 2 degrees, your fifth house of true love on Saturday January 21. Here is what makes it special.

Mars in Gemini will be in the ideal position to assist this new moon. This might result in a romantic trip with your significant other, and if you have children, you might ask grandmother to help you over a long weekend. That would be an ideal time to go, but admittedly, you will have more weeks ahead to enjoy love, not as special as this weekend, but nevertheless, special. Not only will Mars be helpful, but Jupiter, too, for Jupiter is the giver of gifts and luck and is sending shimmering beams to the new moon, linking your house of true love to your house of marriage and commitment. With his gorgeous new moon everyone benefits.

This new moon will help to keep the holiday spirit moving forward and you in an enchanting mood. Single Libras have a wonderful forecast for meeting someone special. The way to do that would be at a party and dinners with friends, because your fifth house of true love rules fun gatherings and holds the new moon, Sun, Venus, and Saturn. Venus, your ruler, will orbit close to Saturn, so you might find there’s a large age difference between you and your new sweetheart. But it seems to work.

Because of the link the new moon will create between love and marriage, this would be the ideal weekend to get engaged or wed. If you are already married, Jupiter in your seventh house of marriage makes you the sign most likely to be happily wed. The fact is that Jupiter will be in sync with this new moon, sending it a bushel of shimmering beams. This would be a perfect time to celebrate your love with a special-occasion dinner in a romantic restaurant over the weekend of January 21-22.

This same fifth house, where the new moon is appearing January 21, is the house that the ancient astrologers put a lot of emphasis on for having children. If you hope to have a baby, try soon after the new moon of January 21. If you have had problems with conception, this new moon would be perfect for consulting with a fertility specialist. If you are a woman in your late 20s or early 30s, consider freezing your eggs—it is the first question the fertility doctor will ask you. Having your eggs frozen helps you buy time. It’s not a painful procedure as it is done while you are asleep. When you wake up, you would need a friend to take you home. This option never was available to our mothers and has helped many modern couples have a baby.

If you have not had problems with conception and want another, by all means try as soon as your cycle permits after the new moon January 21. A new moon’s effect is in place for six months, but is strongest in the month it appears.

This new moon will also help you on another level—to bring out your creativity to a high degree. Ideas will keep coming to you, and they will be innovative and possibly high tech, for this new moon is in Aquarius, the sign of future inventions and originality. The moon is the natural ruler of your tenth house of prestigious career advancement, so if you change jobs, this new moon may give you a whirlwind of ideas to suggest and get approved for your new job.

There are other days this month that I love very much.

One of the finest days of the month will be January 24 when the Sun and Jupiter will be in perfect sync. This is a Tuesday but a highly romantic day. Love and commitment go together like cup and saucer, especially so because it comes after the new moon of January 21.

You have a stellar weekend January 28-29 where Mars in your ninth house of travel will be in perfect sync with the mighty Sun. All through the second half of 2022 you traveled much more than usual, and this will keep up through the first quarter of 2023. It looks as though the more you travel the more you will want to travel. Mars is in Gemini, so it appears you are not going overseas or to foreign nations. Still, the short tips have been deliciously refreshing, possibly made through the kindness of friends. The Sun rules your eleventh house of joy and friendships, so if you can, plan to go away this weekend, for it would be fun.

Venus, your ruler, will be in madly compatible Aquarius nearly all month, from January 2 to January 26. You can get ready for lasting romance by seeing about improving your appearance. You can buy clothing while Mercury is retrograde but not electronics—those are better purchased next month. (Save your receipts, though, in case you buy the wrong size or color.) Have Botox, fillers, and so forth, as well as a new haircut after January 21. Get ready for love, dear Libra—more is coming in February.

Now that the holidays are over, you will find that January starts out with a great deal of activity. First, you have a full moon appearing in your tenth house of career honors, awards, and achievement. You may hear that you landed a new position, one with greater status and influence, or it may be that you will be finishing up a big project near the full moon January 6 that is so newsworthy, the press may want to do a profile on you. Uranus will be sweetly angled to that full moon, and that could translate into generous money for you. If you lose a job, it appears your company feels bad about the layoff and will be open to giving you a generous severance—be sure to ask. (I am not saying this is going to happen, only that it is remotely possible since I cannot see everything in your chart.) Think positively—this full moon is on your side. If you are getting a new job, and it’s the appropriate time, ask about company benefits, which are due to be generous.

At the same time of that delicious full moon January 6, you have plenty of activity focused on your home or other property you may own or rent, or you may be thinking more about your family. If you have to move, you may be finding suitable spaces to consider, or if your parents or a sibling is planning a move, you might volunteer to lend a hand.

The Sun in this area of your chart will also signal surprise planet Uranus in your eighth house of money, indicating that you would find banks willing to give you a mortgage or home improvement loan. There are other ways this might work out—if you owe a large sum of money, possibly for taxes or a student loan, or need to put a down payment on a house but don’t have the full amount, or if you have been distressed about this matter, there is hope. The fact that Uranus is beaming the Sun in your fourth house suggests that a member of your family could be sympathetic to your plight and possibly give you a sum of money to help you pay the debt.

Let’s now turn to a different topic. For months, Mars has been circulating in your ninth house of distant travel, so you may be making many more trips than usual. Alternatively, you may be involved in a legal matter, one that dragged on for weeks or months. Or if you work in the media, you may have been working on a story (or are the subject of one) or been focused on attaining an advanced degree. Things are about to go far better because Mars, the planet causing your focus in one or more of these areas, is about to go from retrograde to direct orbit on January 12. While Mars can’t normalize his movements instantly, he will at least be moving in the right direction after January 12, and it is likely you will see a breakthrough.

There is another reason progress would have seemed slow to you—Mercury has been retrograde since December 29 (you began feeling that slow down two weeks ahead). Thankfully, Mercury will turn on full power on January 18. After that date, you can sign important papers and shop for any electronics you crave using one of the gift cards you may have received last month.

One of your best moments of the month will occur on or after the new moon of January 21 in Aquarius. It will light your fifth house of true love and open your chance of meeting someone new if you are single and hoping to make a fateful meeting. If you attached or married, you will have more time and inclination to carve out quality time to be with your beloved. Jupiter will strengthen your bonds, and you will have a special chance to grow closer. With the Sun, new moon, your ruler Venus, and Saturn in Aquarius, all squeezed into this romantic area of your chart, you will get invitations to be with friends to unwind and relax.

Uranus is the ruler of your love sector, and lo and behold, Uranus has been retrograde too (since August 24), but will go direct on January 22, opening a flood of jewel-like romantic dates in the weeks to come in February.

Circle in gold January 24, a four-star day when Jupiter and the Sun send supportive beams to each other that will help you build a strong, fun relationship (or help you start a new one).

Another standout date will be January 29 when the Sun and Mars will be in sync.

You have plenty going on—and you can make much of it work in your favor in this important month.
