A Note from Susan Miller
Often when we start a new year, the outer planets stay in their same positions, so the look and feel of the coming year stays fairly the same. That does not happen in 2021! Jupiter and Saturn decided to both enter Aquarius two days apart last month, to make lengthy stays. Gradually, other planets will migrate away from Capricorn and into Aquarius—something you will see in February—and offer a lighter, breezier influence than what we have been used to.
The eclipses have moved away from Capricorn and Cancer too, into more mutable, flexible, and adaptable Gemini and Sagittarius. We will have three eclipse in those signs in 2021, and the start of in a new series, Taurus and Scorpio, when one arrives in Taurus this year. In 2020, we had a remarkable six eclipses (actually seven, if you count the December 25, 2019, eclipse that appeared one week before 2020), which means that the universe was asking us to make many sudden adjustments.
Your Horoscope by Susan Miller
If you are happy to move from 2020 to 2021, I understand. This past year has not been kind to most Libras. For one thing, you had to host Mars in your seventh house of relationships, not for the typical six or eight weeks but for six months. That had to put some strain on even the strongest of close relationships. If you are married and in love, or living together in an established relationship, chances are the pandemic fostered too much togetherness—said another way, too much of a good thing.
Mars can sometimes work to cleanse a situation, in this case, to get you and your partner on the same page by bringing little problems to the surface before they fester and grow into big ones.
Libra loves to be attached and married, so as you moved through the second half of 2020 (from June 27 to January 6, 2021), you may have been surprised to find that you and your spouse or sweetheart did not always agree on basic topics.
The focus on a partner could have pertained to your relationship with a business collaborator, such as an agent, publicist, lawyer, accountant, or another close associate. Mars can certainly bring noise and commotion to your relationship as he often acts in a rambunctious way, but now, as Mars makes his exit, things will calm down. Mars will move into Taurus from January 6 to March 3 and light your eighth house of other people’s money.
During the coming eight weeks, you will start to have a major focus on money management. You may be doing tax preparation, figuring out how to lower your debt, or finding ways to bring in more money. Mars brings not only energy, but motivation too, and you will have your magnifying glass in hand, finding areas of waste you might be willing to cut. If you are interested in filing an insurance claim, send it any time on or after January 6 when Mars can help you get answers.
You may recall that Mars had gone retrograde this past year from September 9 to November 13, a seemingly endless period, but in 2021, Mars will not retrograde at all (not until next year, October 30, 2022, to January 12, 2023, which will certainly not be a time to marry, start a business, buy a house, or initiate a vital life dream). So you can see when you can make progress, I have listed Venus and Mars retrograde periods on a special table on the home page of Astrology Zone. I felt this would be helpful as you plan.
If you are in the process of getting a divorce or ending a business you shared equally with a partner, and you’re trying to find a fair way of splitting the assets, this tour of Mars could be difficult. Mars is known to ignite arguments, so you may have difficulty finding areas of compromise regarding the division of assets. Have a good lawyer represent and protect your interests. If you don’t get things settled during the weeks that span January 6 to March 3, you will get another chance to do so at and just after the new moon, May 11, 2021. Due to the position of Uranus, the planet of unexpected developments, you will have to factor in several twists and turns that you won’t see coming from the person with whom you are negotiating. Things will improve when Mars moves out of this house of other people’s money on March 3. At that time, Mars will go into Gemini, a highly compatible place for you to host Mars.
January 13 sparkles for an unexpected episode of love, when Venus and Uranus combine signals. You will feel sexy and alluring, so Cupid and his little fleet of angels will be buzzing above you no matter where you go.
If anyone owes you money who has a history of not paying on time, you will need to send this person frequent reminders. If you have a business, guard against an important customer going bankrupt by asking for large deposits upfront, before the job starts.
Let’s turn to your job search, as I know many Libras are actively pursuing employment. The pandemic has created global economic havoc, and even if you have a job, you may still be looking for side work to bring in more money. You had an important full moon on December 29, plus five days, and that full moon in Cancer hit the very pinnacle point of your chart. You were likely able to get an answer about whether you are still in the running for a position. Don’t assume no new jobs are offered at year’s end—new jobs are always being offered.
Your next big opportunity to find a top job won’t come until the new moon on July 9, 2021, but you will have an opportunity before that, while Mars energizes your tenth house, April 23 until June 11, 2021. Those will be big professional moments in 2021, but there will be smaller ones, and I will tell you about those as they keep coming up. I would like you to press hard in the first half of January because Mercury will retrograde from January 30 to February 20.
You might see luck in February—certainly, planets stacking in Aquarius will be fortunate for you because they will support you so strongly. You are not used to having cosmic assistance! In February, your luck will come from people who know you and admire your work, not from new people. In January, you can meet new people, but again, next month, February, with Mercury retrograde, you will have better luck if you go back to your past to reconnect.
Here is a really important point—if you are out of work and desperate for good aspects to find a job, it will be imperative that you find out your rising sign (also called your ascendant), and read my reports each month for that sign, too. The only people who have the same rising sign as their Sun sign are those born at dawn. You would need your exact time of birth to find out your rising sign, and many free sites will offer you the quick answer. Not the rising degree, too—the chart will tell you—and if you can, print out your chart. You will find other opportunities to find a job if you know your rising sign.
Now let’s turn to your home life, to be brilliantly lit at the new moon January 12 in Capricorn, 23 degrees. Many Libras had hoped to find a new apartment or house in 2020, and some did move for you had superb aspects. If you didn’t move but still want to improve the look and feel of your current home or buy a vacation home, start looking in earnest after the new moon of January 12. If you need a new mattress, a colorful rug, a comfy couch to curl up on—anything can be found after the January 12 new moon. It will be an enormous help to your plans, and because many home-oriented companies have attractive sales this month, you’ll also have the chance of finding the perfect solution at a bargain price. Renovation comes under this new moon too, along with repairs—if you need work done, collect names, and by January 12, choose your contractor.
I love this new moon because your fourth house of home and family will bring important heavenly bodies to Capricorn: the Sun, new moon, Pluto, and your ruler Venus. Venus will be in ideal angle to Mars, her lover, now in Taurus, your eighth house of other people’s money. If you need a mortgage or to refinance one or a home improvement loan, it looks like you will get it. Uranus, Mars, and Venus will be beautifully supportive.
I should add that a Capricorn new moon puts Saturn in the lead, but Saturn will be in a cranky mood. We do have to factor in Saturn’s current difficult position with Mars and Uranus. This spells obstacle, not an inability to move forward, so you may have to tweak your plans and be flexible. Neptune will provide inspiration. Sometimes bumps in the road make us stop and think, and we come up with a better idea that we would never have thought of had we not faced a hurdle—I think this is the case here.
If you are trying to help an elderly parent with their living situation, this new moon will reveal options you had not considered before. You need not be focused only on living questions for your beloved relative, for this new moon can help you with other topics you need to solve for family members.
At month’s end, we have a full moon in Leo, 9 degrees, on January 28, which should bring you more fun. This full moon will fall in your eleventh house, so that tells me you would likely be in touch with at least one close friend. This is a complex full moon. Opposite the full moon is a trio of heavenly bodies in your fifth house, all in Aquarius. Jupiter will partner with that full moon, and that’s a positive indication you could enjoy this episode, but Saturn is also opposing the full moon in Leo from Aquarius, within two degrees, suggesting your friend may be going through a very difficult patch. You would be in the best position to help your friend.
There are other considerations, too. Mars and Uranus are traveling together (within four degrees) in Taurus, your eighth house of other people’s money, and they are in sharp odds (90 degrees) with the full moon in Leo, your eleventh house, and at the same time in sharp conflict (90 degrees) with the Sun, Saturn, and Jupiter in Aquarius, your fifth house. This sets up a grand fixed T-square of tension, with most of the tension at the fulcrum, the eighth house of other people’s money. You may want to help your friend or participate in an expensive event (such as your friend’s wedding later this year), but your solar chart says that the costs of doing so will be a consideration and could possibly bring on stress.
If your friend is out of money due to unemployment, help your friend in non-financial ways if possible, say, babysitting, bringing bags of groceries, or sharing dinners. If your friend is planning an expensive destination wedding for months from now, don’t commit yet. I don’t like saying mixing money with friends is a bad idea this month, but I must also add that a new moon stretches its influence at least six months, so this will have a long cord.
Mercury is to go retrograde from January 30 to February 20, so as you get closer to the month’s end, you will be too close to the date Mercury will turn to make any commitment that will stick. This is why you must make all of your most important initiations early in January. Once you get to January 17 or so, you will begin to feel the slowdown that Mercury brings.
If you want to buy a new smartphone, laptop, iPad, or other electronic device, do so in early January, or wait until early March. Early March will be a prime time for those purchases. Of course, sign no contracts when Mercury is retrograde either, including the closing on a house, and leave a space of as many days as possible from the onset date (January 30) and end date (February 20). One or two days won’t be enough—you will find that to be true down the line.
There is something else big happening on this full moon January 28 in Leo that makes it complicated. The Luckiest Day of the Year occurs on the same day when the Sun and Jupiter will align. We didn’t have that happen in 2020—the last time was December 27, 2019. This beautiful aspect is meeting in your house of true love, and it seems a friend could trigger your luck.
There are other ways this aspect could be read. The eleventh house covers not only platonic friendships, but also humanitarian activities. Seeing so much suffering around you, you might reach out to help by working for a community effort, a charity, or by donating blood. Often there are small things we can do to help others, such as by responding to a winter coat drive, a plea for canned grocery items, and so forth.
Your eleventh house, ruled by the Sun, not only rules friendships and humanitarian activities, but it also rules hopes and wishes. This meeting of the Sun and Jupiter on January 28 might unlock a deeply held dream that will finally become within reach for you. If you are single, you might meet your one truelove through the introduction of a friend or by working with others for a charity or community event.
If you are attached and have been trying for a baby, see a fertility doctor for a consultation on this date or close to it. This meeting of the mighty Sun and Jupiter certainly has a miracle element about it.
If you work in the creative field, this aspect could bring you approval for a magnificent well-paying assignment or see you finishing the month by wrapping and shipping an assignment to your client. The fifth house which is so lit up, rules your imagination, creativity, and artistic expressions. Jupiter is an international sign, so any project you get or ship at this time, January 28, could well have wide international appeal.
Before I go, I will list the days for you to enjoy love. You’re ruled by Venus, so we need to know what Venus is doing.
On January 9, Venus will receive special rare beams from her lover, Mars. Venus will be in your home sector most of the month, so this means you might want to plan a romantic evening with your steady date or partner. If you want to do something for your home and need a home improvement loan, this is the date to make your loan application. This is a day when lots of things should go your way, and you’ll be humming a happy tune.
January 13 sparkles for an unexpected episode of love, when Venus and Uranus combine signals. You will feel sexy and alluring, so Cupid and his little fleet of angels will be buzzing above you no matter where you go—the post office, the supermarket, the Apple store—you name it. This should be a fun day, full of surprises.
January 23 brings Venus and Neptune into sublime contact, making for a glamourous evening. This is a Saturday night, and again, romance will bloom best where Venus is found—at home.
You have a highly productive month, dear Libra—enjoy it!
It is a New Year, and few people will be as happy as you to enter 2021, for once you begin January, you will certainly feel the difference. Mars, the warrior planet, has spent an unusually long time in your seventh house of relationships—specifically, Mars emphasized your spouse or long-term established partner or a person you collaborate with for work. Mars is noisy and brash and has been a handful for you to host in this area of your chart because Mars has been opposing your Sun. If you felt you were not getting along smoothly with your mate, sweetheart, or business partner, point to Mars, which was stirring the pot and making your life difficult.
This trend was unusually hard because Mars entered your seventh house on June 27 and will finally leave on January 6. That is a very long time to host Mars in one sign (or house) of the horoscope, and this lengthy stay was caused by the retrograde of Mars from September 9 to November 13. All the while, Mars stayed in the sign it rules, Aries, so Mars was particularly strong in that sign. Having Mars opposed to your Sun (six signs away at 180 degrees) is no fun, but after January 6, your relationship with someone important to you should improve.
Mars will move into your eighth house of credit and other people’s money, including money you share with another person. This is not an easy place to host Mars either because it could bring disagreements about how money is appropriated. You may have a disagreement with a partner or firm about commissions or royalties due. You may scramble when you find out how much you owe for taxes, a student loan, mortgage, or back rent owed to a landlord.
On January 20, Mars will conjunct Uranus, but you could receive positive sudden financial news too, for with Uranus, you never know which way things will go. He is the planet of unpredictability. You can feel this aspect as much as a week before or after this conjunction occurs.
In the not-so-good category, money owed to you will likely be late (or your client may declare bankruptcy and you may never see the payment). If none of these apply, you may find unauthorized charges on your credit card, so be sure to look at the statement the minute it arrives.
If you were going through a divorce or separating profits at the end of a business, you might have to brace for the tough attitude of your soon-to-be-ex. In another instance, you may have plans for your child and need to send a payment, but your spouse may not agree with the expenditure. In this case, it seems you would feel passionate about giving your child a special opportunity, so present a good case to do so. As a Libra, you are a natural in the social graces and are always diplomatic when in a dispute, which will keep things calm, so you can present your point of view calmly. Fortunately, Mars will only spend six weeks in this house, not six months, as Mars had done when in Aries in 2020.
You have lots of star power on your side. As of late last month, Jupiter, the giver of gifts and luck, moved into fellow air-sign Aquarius, a divine sign for you, to fill your fifth house of true love. You will have many months of Jupiter’s sunshine in the love department. This house also rules children you have now or a baby you hope to conceive, and in both instances, your life will sparkle. Any plans you might have regarding pregnancy or for the care of your children will go well.
It appears you will have a wonderful opportunity to improve your personal life. Saturn, the taskmaster planet, has also arrived with Jupiter, so initially—until May—you may find the role you take on will require self-discipline and concentration, but it will be well worth the effort. With Saturn, what you choose to achieve, you get to keep forever. No doubt about it, 2021 will be all about embroidering your personal life to make it richer and more satisfying.
In that vein, the new moon of January 12 will be a gift from the universe, especially if you plan to move to a new space, repair, renovate, or design your present one. The holidays are over, and now is the perfect time to devote yourself to this project. This new moon will help you find precisely what you need as it is the only new moon that will appear in your home sector in 2021. It will give you your best opportunity to make your home exactly as you want it to be, and to benefit, you must begin in the days after the new moon appears. Neptune will be beautifully angled to the new moon and Sun, so you will have plenty of artistic ideas to apply to your décor.
Most major undertakings require funding, and in that case, it appears you can get the money you need, thanks to a friendly communication between Venus, Pluto, the Sun, and new moon, with Uranus and Mars in your house of banks, home improvement loans, and mortgages. Saturn and Uranus will be at odds, however, so you might have to factor in some unexpected expenses, particularly regarding an older structure involving the walls you might want to take down or the foundation of the house. You may have a lot of paperwork to fill out too—Saturn loves to create red tape. Check to see that your home has enough electrical wiring as it appears you will need a more robust electrical current than you have had in the past for the Internet and all the entertainment gadgets in your home.
The Luckiest Day of the Year happens when the Sun and Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, meet in conjunction on January 28. Remarkably, this year, these two heavenly bodies will meet on January 28 in Aquarius, your house of true love, pregnancy, and children. This date also coincides with a full moon in luxury-minded Leo, so you may have a close friend come to stay with you or plan a special socially distanced dinner together in a beautiful restaurant. If plans are more elaborate, you might be concerned about the drain this event could have on your finances and perhaps decide not to participate. You seem to have more than usual expenses anyway, most likely related to your home or the financial support you are giving a family member, possibly a parent.
Mercury will go retrograde this month, from January 30 to February 20, but you will feel the change of plans this planet gives when out of phase ten days earlier. This is just one of several reasons your plans with a friend may change. If you can scale back on some of the expenses of the event you had been looking forward to with your friend, you may still be able to move ahead. Fingers crossed—this event does look special and quite luxurious.
