A Note from Susan Miller
October is due to be a unique month that will not be easy for any of us. The planets will be in a frenzy, the likes of which I have rarely seen. If you feel you’ve seen enough surprises this year, I am sorry to report that there will be a slew of them in October. Warrior Mars is one of the prime instigators, but surprise-a-minute Uranus will play a leading part, too. Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury will stir the pot as well and add to the turmoil.
When the planets get this way, it is because they want to shake up the status quo and force us to confront languishing situations that many of us would prefer not to address. As you see, there is method in the planets’ madness. One thing you can rely on is that when planets are in harsh angle to each other, the universe brings enormous energy so that you can deal with what happens. Sweet aspects—trines and positive, happy conjunctions—are always prized, but they make us a little lazy. Squares and oppositions are the hard aspects, but they sure do bring high energy. The universe will always give you the tools you need when it brings you a challenge.
Your Horoscope by Susan Miller
If you are thinking it seems like no one is happy, and everyone is mad at everyone else, you’ve not seen anything yet—October brings conflict to a high point. In all the years I have done astrology, it’s rare to see the planets thumping around, yelling at each other, offering little or no support. Everyone will feel the tension in the air, and you will see it in your own life, on TV, and on the news, but you are luckier than most, because Mars, the action planet, although currently retrograde, is still in a highly compatible place to help you.
Mars has been in Aries for a very long time. Mars usually stays in a sign six weeks, but in 2020, Mars is staying in Aries for six months, and that has advantages and disadvantages. Mars will not go direct until November 13, so if you have anything important to accomplish, see if you can delay it until the second half of November.
Not only will Mars be retrograde this month, but Mars’ little brother Mercury will also be retrograde from October 13 to November 3. During that time, miscommunications and delays will be common, including the mail and shipments, which could be late or missing. It’s not the time to buy a new smartphone, computer, vacuum cleaner, or dishwasher. Avoid the electronics store—this year, the stores will be having incredible sales long before Christmas. That’s not why I am telling you to wait, though—it is because you would never enjoy the product you buy while Mercury is retrograde. Mercury rules electronic chips and the moving parts in machines, making the possibility of malfunctions very real.
Mercury and Mars, both in retrograde, will slow down everything. You will want to make progress, but obstacles will keep getting in the way, and you will have to attend to those first. Everyone is in the same boat, so just diligently put one foot in front of the other, and when things go wrong, try to laugh.
A full moon will greet you the moment the month begins, October 1, and it will fall in Aries, 9 degrees. That full moon will draw your attention to a friend but also to money, and this full moon is fraught with difficult aspects. Mars will be angry at Pluto and Saturn in your eighth house of other people’s money. You seem to have problems getting money that is due you from someone (not necessarily a friend), and waiting for those funds is giving you high anxiety. This seems nothing new—you may have had this problem before with this person or company. You may be waiting for a commission check, child support, an insurance payment, or a bonus. It could also be that a client or friend owes you money.
At the same time, Mercury will be under siege from Uranus, the planet of unanticipated events, that seems to come out of left field. Mercury is your ruler and won’t be debilitated in retrograde quite yet (although he will be slowing down)—this full moon is October 1 (and Mercury goes retrograde October 13). The fact that Mercury is your ruler tells me this news will rattle you, and it may have something to do with a job or your health.
If you have an optional health procedure this month, put it off to November if possible. Some medical procedures are very necessary, and if yours is, do it. People write all the time to ask, is it okay to have a CAT scan? Of course, it is. Is it okay to get my physical? Of course. These are not major events. If you are having open-heart surgery, it might be urgent, then have it. I asked my doctor if I could put off my urgent eye surgery until November, and she said with great authority, yes. Due to COVID, all the surgeries are being pushed back a little, and although mine is an emergency, she said I can wait, and I will, until the second half of November. Follow your doctor’s advice.
On October 11 you might take a short trip—usually within 200 miles of your home base—because Venus is in your third house of quick travel. A trip to the countryside sounds good, yes?
In terms of your friend, you may be hearing that your friend is getting married or moving away or some other news that makes you sit up and take notice.
While all this is going on, Venus is watching from your third house of communication—the house Gemini rules—and will contact Mars, presumably in an effort to calm him down a little. Mars loves Venus, and yet because the universe gives them both so many assignments, they have precious few moments to speak to each other. Now they will, and that will help. Venus will be in Leo, a sign that blends well with yours, so if you have to talk with a friend or to someone who owes you money, I would say use a soft touch. Your charm will go a long way to help you get the money owed you.
I hesitate to give you another way this could work out, but I might as well, because I am your friend, and I have to list everything I see. It is possible that a friend has betrayed you financially, and you will find out about it at this full moon. I hope this is not the way things work out, but I can’t be sure. Full moons have a way of bringing forth full disclosure—usually from someone else, not the perpetrator. In this case, the full moon will be trying to help you protect yourself.
If your birthday falls on May 28, plus or minus five days, you will somehow find a way to make this full moon work for you. The same is true if you have Gemini rising 9 degrees, plus or minus five degrees, or a natal planet in Gemini, Aquarius, or Libra at 9 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. If so, you will have something to be happy about.
Ah, but we are just getting started. Next comes the new moon in Libra, 24 degrees, filling your fifth house of true love. Mars is standing across the skies (180 degrees away) in Aries and aiming his ammunition at the new moon and Sun in Libra. To add to the tension, Mars is still continuing his conflict with Saturn and Pluto in your house of other people’s money.
I feel these two areas—money and love (romance, fun, and leisure, too)—are separate, but they could be linked. Remarkably, Uranus is hounding Mercury and is also still in direct opposition to your ruling planet, so it’s possible more unexpected news is tumbling forward and about to come out into the open. All new moons start trends, they don’t finish them, as full moons do. Alas, what comes up mid-October may be a theme that you will work with for months.
If your birthday falls on June 16, plus or minus five days, this new moon, although problematic, can work for you because it is in harmony with your natal Sun. The same is true if you have Gemini rising 24 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. If you have a natal planet in Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius at 24 degrees, that planet will be lit up and helpful to you.
The worst aspect this month will be the full moon on October 31, which as you know is also Halloween. That full moon will be in Taurus, 9 degrees, illuminating your twelfth house of secrets that now will reveal themselves. What concerns me is that Uranus, the planet of completely unexpected events, will be conjunct with the moon and opposing the Sun within one tight degree. Whoa. I certainly would not advise anyone to trick or treat this year, not even a child. (If your child insists, go with your children, even if they are teenagers. This is a violent aspect.)
The Sun is in your house of health, so you will have to keep up with your protective regimens against the coronavirus. Wash hands and wear that mask when outside. Keep socially distanced and don’t let down your guard. Authorities warn against pandemic fatigue, but that is exactly what the virus hopes you will fall victim to. Mathematically, I see there will be a second wave of the virus in October, peaking in mid-November and gently flattening the curve in December. We may hear an announcement about a vaccine by Christmas, but more likely, I feel we’ll hear on or very near January 12.
Even once authorities announce a vaccine, they still have to make it and distribute it, not only to your countrymen but all over the world. Unless every country has the vaccine, we will never be able to be free of this virus. Did you know the Spanish Flu is still with us? You can google it. Only now we call it the seasonal flu, not the Spanish Flu, and every year, it mutates. You might want to ask your doctor if you should get a flu shot now. I got mine already because I hear there may be a run on them. The flu shot takes two to four weeks to begin to work, so I thought I would start early. I mention all this because this October 31 full moon could lower your resistance.
This full moon will be heavily influenced by Uranus, so again, financial news is a roll of the dice. It might be good news, or it may be on the other end of the spectrum, bad news. With Uranus, you never know. Uranus always brings news you’d never expect, never considered, and perhaps never thought of as possible. I don’t want you to raise your hopes, however, because not only will Mars be in position in your eleventh house of friendships, dreams, and desires, but he will also still be aiming his canons at Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter. Mercury, from his position in your fifth house of love, children, and leisure will do the same. You seem to be in some sort of deadlock in October. Things will get better in November, and you may see a softening of the financial situation.
I know, this month is a real challenge. Are there any good days? Yes! In the US (as well as Columbia, Venezuela, Chile, Spain, and Mexico), we celebrate Columbus Day, and on that weekend, October 10-12, we have a lovely interplay between Venus and Uranus. If you are single, you might find love, even in a pandemic. Have a friend set you up with a virtual blind date on Zoom.
There is another way to use October 11. You might take a short trip—usually within 200 miles of your home base—because Venus is in your third house of quick travel. A trip to the countryside sounds good, yes?
There is something else—one of the big features of 2020 was to be the heavenly communication between Neptune and Jupiter. This is a highly creative, imaginative aspect, and with Neptune in your tenth house of honors, awards, and achievement, and Jupiter in your house of other people’s money, you might develop an idea to put on the market and get the funding (from a bank or sponsor) to make it happen. This is a rare aspect that will happen on October 12, making that string of days, October 10, 11, and 12, outstanding.
Keep your chin up, dear Gemini. We all will be feeling the same aspects in various ways. I promise—November brings a big improvement, and on November 30, a lunar eclipse in Gemini. More about that next month.
October will be a month when things will get settled once and for all. The process to get to that point will take effort because planets in cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, and Capricorn, with no planets in the other cardinal sign of Cancer) will clash and clang against one another to create a new and steadier future for you. This process won’t be entirely easy. You might be inclined to shy away when things get difficult, but that will only cause stagnation. Progress will only happen when you get involved and work through difficult matters. This will be true for everyone this month, of every sign, and you are more fortunate than most to have Mars in a fire sign, Aries, that blends well with your air-sign Gemini.
This month’s planets will reveal weak links in relationships and conditions that you will either need to improve or put an end to. Difficult full moons can be the key to a brighter future because they expose all you need to know. If you have done nothing wrong, you will be helped by a loving universe. If you have made a mistake, the universe will gently push you on the right track—in that case, welcome the opportunity.
The full moon of October 1 will focus on a friend, a group of friends, your community at work, or the managers of a club you belong to. Or if you own your own company or are in a joint venture with another company, the focus may be on that alliance.
The full moon of October 1 will bring a platonic relationship to a culmination, but it seems you will be upset with someone (or a group or company) for not paying you the money promised at this full moon. You likely won’t walk away, though, because with Mars taunting three planets in your eighth house (of other people’s money), you will stand up for yourself and possibly wisely hire a lawyer to be your advocate.
With the full moon in Aries, Mars takes the lead here, but Mars will come up against Pluto, so the solution won’t be simple or quick. At times you may feel like you are fighting city hall because the pushback you will feel will be substantial. This is outrageous because you are the innocent one here. Take your time—Rome was not built in a day. The other party you will be trying to reason with will attempt to intimidate you so that you’ll back off. Mars won’t let you stop—keep confidently pressing forward. Be prepared for unexpected developments from this person or group of people, as Uranus will be close enough to oppose your ruling planet, Mercury.
New moons, like the one coming on October 16, are usually not as emotional as full moons, but the planets will be on a rampage all month, so you can’t take anything for granted—double-check assumptions. This month’s new moon on October 16 will be in your fifth house of true love, and as it is also the house of creativity and artistic projects, this might be the main emphasis.
This new moon and Sun will be doing battle with the same planets Mars fought at the full moon October 1—Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto. You may report expense overruns on a creative project and have problems getting additional funds approved. The money will again be a serious point of contention. If you are in the process of a divorce, you may have a six-month battle ahead, and if someone owes you a large sum, you will need to take the situation seriously and hire the best legal counsel you can afford. At the same time. Uranus will continue to oppose Mercury, your ruler, so you will need to be ready for a twist you don’t expect from the other side. Having a sharp, experienced, and intelligent lawyer will make all the difference in the outcome.
To make matters more complicated, Mercury, your ruler, will go retrograde from October 13 to November 3, and that will be within an ongoing period of Mercury’s big brother Mars currently also in retrograde, September 9 to November 13. Having Mercury and Mars retrograde at the same time will only make life move more slowly than it has so far. Keep your health strong (Gemini’s weak part of the body is the lungs) because I project a strong second wave of the virus in October, November, and early December.
Planets that orbit closest to earth are felt much more strongly than planets found further out in space. The planets that orbit closest to earth are Venus, Mercury, and Mars, and we’ll have two out of those three retrogrades at once. To say you will be reviewing the past and pinpointing any problem that you’ve had to live with over past months or years is an understatement.
This month holds two full moons, and the last one will occur in Taurus on October 31. Again, Uranus will be stirring the pot and will oppose the Sun to exact degree, directly on the last day of the month, and ironically, that is Halloween. The moon will be opposed to the Sun, adding to this unpredictable and unstable atmosphere at the full moon, which, although is a separate aspect, all adds into the difficulty of the month. Regardless of the industry you work in, you may have power outages, a computer problem, or sudden difficulty with your client. Be ready for anything, and if you are, nothing will faze you. As a Gemini, you are the most resourceful, adaptable, versatile, and flexible sign of the zodiac, and all your talents will come into play and keep you ahead of the pack.
