Your August Horoscope for Gemini

Until now, you’ve been in the planning stage of a project, getting things “just so” before the big reveal. You are almost at the finish line. Once Mars moves into Gemini, everything you’ve been doing can become public. That will happen once Mars enters Gemini on August 20, and Mars will remain in Gemini until March 25, 2023.

If you follow astrology, you are saying, “Wait—Mars usually spends six or seven weeks in one sign, not seven months!” That’s true. The reason it’s happening now is that Mars will go retrograde for nearly 11 weeks, from October 30, 2022, to January 12, 2023. During that retrograde period, sit still and don’t launch anything vital, not even a new relationship. Mars teaches us to compete well so we can win. When you launch something new, especially a business, product launch, or a new job, you would need to have a good, strong Mars behind you. You can succeed without having Mars moving direct, but you will find the process to be so much harder.

Therefore, you need to be very productive this month, getting everything into the marketplace before Mars slows down. You will notice that he will begin to languish as soon as mid-October. You might be wondering, “Why do I have to step on the gas pedal in August, can’t I use September?” Ok, here is where I drop the other shoe:

Mars’ little brother, Mercury, is a copycat by nature and wants to go retrograde before Mars does. Mercury will retrograde from September 9 to October 2, so Mercury will beat Mars to the punch by going retrograde a month before Mars, but Mars will stay in retrograde longer, from October 30 to January 12, 2023. We are heading into “slow-mo” periods. Act now!

The date you choose to give birth to a new initiative matters in astrology—it’s the reason we look for the very best aspects possible. When Mercury, Venus, and Mars are retrograde, we tend to feel them more directly than we do the other planets because these three planets orbit closest to earth. (The moon is not classified as a planet and as the earth’s satellite, never retrogrades. The Sun never retrogrades either.) Admittedly, the pace will be slow when these planets are out of phase. If you can’t get a project launched in August, you will have a lovely two weeks in early October, before and after a very friendly full moon, October 9.

Having Mars in your sign, dear Gemini, for so long (and moving direct much of the time) will be a big help to you. You’ll find that VIPs will tend to approve of your ideas more readily and that others will want to follow you wherever you go. Mars will give you energy, courage, and drive that just won’t quit.

With Mars in direct mode, it will feel like you’re having 20 cups of coffee a day, so you will have to learn to pace yourself. During the retrograde, though, things will slow down quite a bit. You might encounter supply chain problems, more frustrating than you may have experienced earlier in the year. For supplies you will need later, order them this month, anticipating that things will take more time and possibly cost a bit more later. The earlier you can put in your order, the happier you will be.

You need to be very productive this month before Mars slows down. You will notice that he will begin to languish as soon as mid-October. Mars’ little brother, Mercury, will retrograde from September 9 to October 2, so we are heading into “slow-mo” periods. Act now!

If a normal visit of Mars is six or seven weeks, and this tour is seven months, will you lose any precious time by having the retrograde? Mars will be in good shape during the first weeks (August 20 to approximately October 10), but of course, your ruler Mercury will be throwing in his monkey wrench in September. Even so, you will have the first two weeks of October to launch new products and services, and start a new relationship of any type, whether business or personal. The time to act is from January 21, 2023 (a new moon in Aquarius), through glorious February to March 25, 2023, a period of nine weeks. As you see, you will not lose anything. In fact, you will gain more than others will with this powerful planet at your side, and once Mars is direct, you will be perceived as being more physically attractive, too—it’s all good.

Now let’s turn to your third house of communication, which was lit up on July 28 by the new moon in Leo, 6 degrees, just before the start of August. You may be working on a big project—something in the digital world, such as an app or podcast, or instead, a traditional book, screenplay, comedy routine, scientific white paper, research paper, feature news story, a documentary, or a complex application for a grant—there are many possibilities.

This new moon will bring you chances to plan quick, short-distance getaways, too. A new moon in Leo would have you craving sunshine and warmth but not to a place that is burning hot. You would likely be situated with cultural activities nearby as Leo (the place of the new moon) does not like to be in the wilderness in a tent—for Leo, anything less than a stay at the Four Seasons feels like camping. With a new moon in Leo, it seems you will need pampering. You will want to feel a bit of luxury, the opportunity to participate in sports, have breakfast on a tray from room service, dry cleaning services, access to a five-star spa, and a dip in a soothing turquoise swimming pool. Even two nights away in luxury accommodations like this would do the trick and rejuvenate you.

The area that the new moon lit, your solar third house, rules contracts too, so you may be given one to sign this month. If so, you can sign this month, for Mercury won’t go retrograde until September. I suggest August 18 because Venus (money) will be in a trine position (supreme harmony) to Jupiter (financial abundance).

If the contact has to do with new media or the digital world, I also like Mercury in Virgo trine Uranus in Taurus on August 16. Mercury rules contracts, and such a sublime angle to Uranus suggests you may see a better result than you anticipate.

If your birthday falls on May 25, plus or minus five days, you will feel the July 28 new moon the most. The same is true if you have Gemini rising or your natal moon in Gemini, 5 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. If you have a natal planet at 0 to 10 degrees in Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius, you, too, will get extra benefit from this new moon. Watch to see how that planet helps you, and take notes to get to know your chart better by simple observation.

The full moon in Aquarius, 19 degrees, will occur on August 11 and light your ninth house of publishing, broadcasting, higher education, international relationships, long-distance travel, immigration matters, and legal activities. One of these areas will be important to you at this time. Uranus will be the most important planet at an Aquarius full moon, and as Uranus will be in Taurus, it will precisely square both the Sun in Leo and full moon in Aquarius. It could bring jarring news that seems to come out of the blue.

This full moon might bring up a large, unexpected expense. It is not a favorable time to travel, so make sure you are not on the road anywhere near this full moon, August 11. Alternatively, you and your sister, brother, or cousin might not see eye-to-eye. This full moon might be stressful because whatever is not working will break down and be whisked away. Afterward, in time, you will see that that element was no longer productive or relevant for your future. The good part about this full moon is that it will deliver its message within five days and after that, tension will fade away. There is a sweet part to this full moon that might save the day. Uranus, the planet of surprise, will send a golden beam to your ruler Mercury.

Now let’s turn to the August new moon, due August 27 in Virgo, which will highlight new experiences for creating a comfortable home and nurturing your family. When looking at this new moon in Virgo, we need to examine Mercury, the planetary ruler you share with Virgo. This new moon will give you the impetus to move, renovate, paint, decorate, or entertain friends and family at your home. When it comes to making changes and improvements at home, this new moon will center your attention on what needs to be done. You can also assist a family member, such as a parent, who might need your help.

As an aside, I will stop to explain rulership for a second. There are not enough planets to go around to all the signs, so some signs share their planet with one other sign. (There are eight planets plus the Sun and moon, so that equals ten, but there are 12 signs.) Those signs that share a ruling planet still behave differently, according to their element. You are an air sign ruled by Mercury, so you think and react as quickly as lightning. Your mind moves at the speed of light, and multi-tasking comes easily to you.

Virgo is an earth sign, and Virgos always look for how they can use information. Earth signs are practical. Geminis loves to consume information. You gather it up, and you are a master at writing, speaking, doing research, advertising, promoting, selling, and translating effectively. Geminis are also great negotiators (along with Libras, another air sign). Communication is your talent. You also love to analyze facts and debate them.

Virgo says, what good is information if you can’t use it? Virgo, the sign you share your ruler Mercury with, always finds a way to use what they read and learn. Gemini doesn’t quite understand why it is so important to Virgo to put the information to work immediately. Geminis feel being in the know is so enjoyable! They love to hear things first so that they can help spread the news, yet Geminis usually find a use for what they learn also, eventually. Think of Gemini’s brain as a repository of facts, like a cupboard holding lots of food, to use when they need it. Both signs are intellectual, and Virgos make especially fine editors, in addition to having other communication skills.

Anyway, I digressed. Mercury is your ruler and will be the most important planet to the new moon in Virgo on August 27 at 4 degrees. Uranus will be at a hard angle to the Sun and new moon, so it would not be a good time to travel and certainly not a good time to close on a house or sign a lease—do that much earlier in the month or later, in early October. The Sun and new moon are in your fourth house of home and under siege from Uranus. If you do have to sign those papers, first give them to your lawyer—this is not the time to skip this step! Make sure you won’t have to make costly repairs on the new space because the seller or renter never told you about those pesky problems. Alternatively, Uranus could bring news about a family member that surprises you, and you will need to drop everything and help. Keep your schedule light.

There is hope for this new moon. Mercury will be in the perfect position to receive a friendly beam from surprise-a-minute Uranus (unlike the new moon and Sun, which will be in an intense argument with Uranus). This is an important asset because Mercury is your ruler and the ruler of this new moon of August 27.

Furthermore, the Sun and the new moon will receive a trine (heavenly aspect) from Pluto, and Pluto will also be in a good position to transit Mars, by this time in Gemini. Pluto is a major financial planet, and he can help you get the money you need to fulfill a home or family project.

Sometimes the new or full moon brings complex, conflicting messages. That happens in life. While the news will be mixed, the Sun and new moon, both appearing in Virgo, will be one point of a golden triangle, and the second point will be held by Pluto in your financial house (the sector that would help you get a mortgage, home improvement loan, or money from a government program to help you care for an elder or other purpose, as some examples). The third point of the triangle will be in your first house, where transiting Mars will be in Gemini by month’s end, giving you rare control. That’s great—Mars is the action planet that is favoriting you, still moving direct, and he will light you to action.

The result of this new moon on August 27 will be positive in the weeks to come, even though you may initially get unexpected, unwelcome news that will force you to make a decision or find a quick solution. Although at first the news may stop you in your tracks, you can, and will, come up with a good, workable solution. Don’t overlook programs offered by the government to help you with an array of financial needs.

Fun and romance will increase while Venus is in Leo from August 11 to September 5. This seems to suggest love would be best while you are on a short trip not far from home. Leo is a fire sign that blends beautifully with your air-sign element. This is your time to collect some new things to wear for the coming season (men and women, both) and for women to buy new makeup colors. Both genders, ask your stylist to suggest changes to the way you wear your hair, have your teeth whitened, or see your dermatologist for Botox or fillers.

Mercury will go retrograde from September 9 to October 2, so buy machines, electronics, new furniture, rugs, linens—anything you need—now! Do not delay!

Your special time is coming, dear Gemini, and that will happen as soon as energy-planet Mars enters Gemini on August 20 to put you in the lead. Mars will remain in Gemini until March 25, 2023, much longer than the usual six or seven weeks that Mars typically spends in a sign. This makes you the leader of the parade, but it will also require a great deal of effort from you on all fronts. To say you will be busy is an understatement.

Last month’s July 28 new moon occurred in your third house, so you will have plenty of communications projects to work on—some are holdovers from July and earlier months, and new ones will also come your way in early August. This type of work is usually your forté as Geminis excel in writing, speaking, editing, research, translation, advertising, publicity, agent work, and even computer coding. Jupiter will be perfectly positioned to lavish luck and happiness on you at this new moon, and there is also an indication that you would be paid well for all the hard work you are doing. You may be traveling quite a bit more than usual in the coming seven months, and to you, dear Gemini, that would be music to your ears.

You are fortunate to have Mars in Gemini, for you will show leadership, courage, determination, and drive, and you will also have a fierce determination to do well and to fulfill your goals. There is something about what you will devote yourself to from August 20, 2022, to March 25, 2023, that will be unusually significant to your life, for it will reflect your deepest joy that forms a large part of your identity. Watch which part of life lights up for you after August 20 and in the weeks to come—that area of life will be dearly important to you.

The theme of communication will continue at the full moon in Aquarius on August 11. This full moon will fall close to stern Saturn in your ninth house, which rules international relationships and foreign travel, publishing, social media, broadcasting, legal matters, and the court system, as well as institutions of higher learning. Something involving one of these matters will come to a culmination. Saturn’s presence gives the situation a serious, weighty tone. This will be a tense time for everybody of every sign.

On August 11, the full moon in Aquarius and the Sun in Leo will each be in hard angle to Uranus and Mars, both of which will be close in Taurus, your secretive twelfth house. Be circumspect if you meet with a reporter who is writing a profile on you—the person posing as a friendly journalist could shock you by having a negative hidden agenda, such as to “expose” you for things you never did, and the journalist won’t bother with facts. Do not do an interview alone. That is but one example, but my point is that things are happening behind the scenes that you cannot see, so be careful about everything you say and do. If you are launching an advertising campaign or any communications-oriented project, do it when Mercury will be trine Uranus, August 16.

On August 14, Saturn will be in opposition to the Sun, possibly making a communications project that you will be finishing arduous. You will have to check the details at the last minute. After August 20, Mars in Gemini will urge you to go quickly, but Saturn will be blinking a cautious yellow light and slowing you down, warning you to give the work another look, and he will urge you to polish it until it gleams. Saturn is your friend—the project you finish will be better as a result.

The new moon in Virgo on August 27 could bring you in greater contact with your family, or you might be focused on your living quarters—a move to a new address, a decorating project, a renovation, or a series of repairs could keep you occupied in the coming weeks, well into September. Mercury will be the most important planet at this time. Fortunately, Mercury in Libra will be in an ideal angle to Mars in Gemini and Pluto in the late degrees of Capricorn, setting up a grand trine of great harmony.

At work, your creative ideas will be lauded and bring you income, and if you are trying to raise money, financial types will be interested in what you have to say. If you are trying to pay for changes in your living quarters or want to help a family member financially, with the new moon’s fine aspects, it looks like the money will appear, thanks to your reputation and admirable work ethic.

Venus smiles on you in Leo from August 11 to September 5. Do whatever you would like to do to improve your appearance (including shopping) and step out!
