A Note from Susan Miller
Often when we start a new year, the outer planets stay in their same positions, so the look and feel of the coming year stays fairly the same. That does not happen in 2021! Jupiter and Saturn decided to both enter Aquarius two days apart last month, to make lengthy stays. Gradually, other planets will migrate away from Capricorn and into Aquarius—something you will see in February—and offer a lighter, breezier influence than what we have been used to.
The eclipses have moved away from Capricorn and Cancer too, into more mutable, flexible, and adaptable Gemini and Sagittarius. We will have three eclipse in those signs in 2021, and the start of in a new series, Taurus and Scorpio, when one arrives in Taurus this year. In 2020, we had a remarkable six eclipses (actually seven, if you count the December 25, 2019, eclipse that appeared one week before 2020), which means that the universe was asking us to make many sudden adjustments.
Your Horoscope by Susan Miller
Your life is about to go through a wonderful refresh, for many planets will be playing musical chairs, changing from heavy earth-oriented placements to ones in light-as-air, which are much better for you. After all, you are an air sign, dear Aquarius, so suddenly, it will be your views and suggestions that seem especially right for the times we all live in.
Soon after you settle into 2021, you will notice life will begin to look and feel different and better. The planets don’t really know or care about how we keep track of days, months, and years on calendars, so they don’t act on cue the moment we enter a new year. However, a big change is happening now. You will start to see changes, and life on this planet will become friendlier and more encouraging. You are not very used to that!
Things will get even better for you in February. By then you will have six out of ten heavenly bodies in Aquarius—the new moon (February 11), the Sun, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn. They will band together in Aquarius to give you major clout.
Mercury will go retrograde in Aquarius from January 30 to February 20, but that won’t stop your luck from rolling. You are holding a hand of all aces. Mercury’s impending retrograde in February means that if there is something you started months—or even years—ago but had to put aside due to lack of time or funding, go back to that project in earnest. There is a great possibility for a major breakthrough. Similarly, if you’ve held on to dream for a long time but dropped the idea as too complicated, go back to that project now. This world runs completely on new ideas. Make appointments with successful, high-level people that you have worked with in the past, for with Mercury retrograde, those are the people who will help you the most.
I don’t want you to sign binding papers in February, nevertheless you can still be highly productive. If you anticipate a contract will appear for you to sign, sign before January 17. That will allow you to stay away from Mercury’s turnaround retrograde date, January 30. Do the same at the back end, on the date Mercury goes direct, February 20. It is never wise to sign on or during the several days after Mercury goes direct. Wait until the first week of March.
You are the most favored of all signs in 2021, for you are entering what I call your Emerald Year, which happens only once every 12 years for one year. On December 19, 2020, Jupiter entered your sign and will stay most of the New Year with you. There will be a cornucopia of goodies that Jupiter will bring you, and I will list some of them. Of course, you have to show the universe your intent—that you want these benefits and in the past have worked honestly and ethically toward your goals. Okay, here are some of the benefits you will enjoy in 2021.
Good-fortune Jupiter will offer you better health, and if you have been troubled by an illness, a distinguished doctor, possibly someone who gives you a second opinion, could help you get the relief you crave.
In 2021 you will be the celestial favorite, the mover and shaker of the zodiac, and the one who will make the headlines. You are not one to follow trends—you start them.
Jupiter will put you at the right place at the right time and help you take advantage of exciting career opportunities for you to see impressive financial growth. You will get at least one chance to travel overseas in 2021, for any reason, or get work from companies in foreign countries—of course, you would only be able to travel after the pandemic is over, but that should happen in 2021.
The best gift of all that Jupiter may have for you is that if you are single, you have the strong possibility of meeting your one truelove. Indeed, in 2021 you can find the person who loves you deeply and who you love back with the same intensity. It will be comforting to know this person understands you and will stand by you through thick and thin. Jupiter is associated with money, so the person you meet will likely be successful.
Are you already with your truelove? Then Jupiter will help you to grow closer. Life will become easier in some ways for you, especially since I see more money flowing in for you, which will give you more options. Stress between you and your partner will be greatly reduced, so of course, that will help, too.
By this time next year, you will be able to look back at all the new people who came into your life this year. Some will inspire you, one or two who are self-made, successful people will encourage you. You’ll want to cultivate the friendship of at least one new person who will offer ways of how you can actualize an idea you’ve researched but can’t yet get your hands around, and at least one or more lasting, deep friendships could form a big part of 2021, too.
The most important point to remember is that in 2021 you will be the celestial favorite, the mover and shaker of the zodiac, and the one who will make the headlines. You are not one to follow trends—you start them.
By next month, February, you’ll have the new moon, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn all in Aquarius affording you potent planetary power at your disposal to give you control and charisma. Others will want to follow you, hoping to catch some of the golden glitter that the universe will shower on you. You only get Jupiter conjunct the Sun eight times in your life if you live to 96. You get an Emerald Year once every 12 years. You’ve waited a long time for this!
Now looking at this list, you might say, “Wait—I see Saturn just went into Aquarius too last month, December 17. Isn’t that bad?” Not at all. It is hard to make lasting change without teacher Saturn in an important aspect. When I started Astrology Zone on December 14, 1995, I had Saturn on my Sun and you do now. My site is now 25 years on the Internet. Does Saturn make you work hard? Sure, but you are no stranger to hard work. Saturn helps give you authority and seasons you with experience so that you can give the structure you need to your goals. Saturn will be with you until March 2023. Your life is changing, dear Aquarius, in the best possible way.
Now, let’s look at January. The most important moment of this month will be at the full moon on January 28, and I will discuss that date with you later. First there is quite a bit of news to unpack, so I had better start at the top of January and work our way forward.
There is no doubt that you were working hard all last year. In fact, you seem to have completed an important project on December 29, or a few days after that. It must have been a relief when you finally were able to ship it off to be delivered.
That full moon of December 29 received a sparkling vibration from your ruling planet, Uranus, the planet of surprise and unanticipated events. I bet you were pleased with the response to your work from your client or boss—it seems you were amazed by how positive the critique turned out to be, and it certainly gave you confidence to try additional projects of complexity in the future. Having proven you can handle them, you’re looking forward to doing more.
Now let’s look at the move of Mars, the energy planet, into Taurus on January 6, a big event because Mars has not changed signs since last June. Mars had been in Aries for six months, an unusually long time—usually Mars stays only six to eight weeks in a sign. You were lucky that your air-sign Aquarius Sun blends well with Mars in fire-sign Aries. During the second half of 2020, you may have been doing a lot of communications-oriented projects involving writing, editing, researching, translating, creating computer code, important information, or writing press releases, copy for apps, advertising copy, or being in charge of social media or customer support.
Now your attention will shift to your living quarters, your family members, and parents. You won’t necessarily change jobs—you can keep doing what you were doing if you like, as you have proven how superbly you can handle the work. It is just that things going on at home or opportunities that are coming up will be compelling. It could be as simple as moving to a new house or working on a decorating project.
When Mars moves to Taurus, you certainly will be ready to make important decisions about your home—where to live and what lifestyle would be suitable. You seem to feel tension, however, because Mars will travel closely with your ruler Uranus.
Uranus is the planet of disruption, change, freedom, surprise, independence, rebellion, and chaos. As an Aquarian, you are lucky to have those as ingredients for creativity. (Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury, taking the intelligence and the accurate facts gathered by Mercury and synthesizing that data into something new and innovative.) There is a reason astrologers call Uranus the planet of genius.
This month, Uranus will travel tightly with Mars, the planet of aggression, determination, courage, and drive. When Mars has too much energy, it brings strife. Uranus is associated with electricity, while Mars is associated with fire. In January, you will have both in your fourth house of home from January 6 to March 3, and they will be exactly conjunct each other on January 20.
The first thing I want you to do is to have an electrician check your electrical system in your living quarters to be sure you have enough power and that your wiring is safe. I have a friend who had a fire when she was out of town, and it was caused by a spark in her dishwasher—which was not on! A neighbor called my friend while she was away to tell her to hurry home. The neighbor told my friend there were four fire engines in front of her house. I am not saying that you will have a fire, but with the hot combo of Mars and Uranus, I need you to be cautious. Additionally, never leave a candle burning when you leave a room.
Mars and Uranus could create a physical manifestation, but more often these two planets can cause an emotional flair-up. Mars can bring on sudden arguments and lots of noise, so it does not look like your home will be a restful place. Perhaps you will invite family to stay with you in your guest room, and it looks to be your sister, brother, or cousin.
Or the noise and commotion could be due to a renovation going on at your home. If that’s what is happening, your contractor may find something unexpected in the walls or plumbing that needs to be fixed.
With Mars conjunct Uranus, it could be that your clan won’t agree with your home or family-related plans, causing you stress. You will have to shape your case in such a way to convince your mate, children, parents, or roommate that the changes you have envisioned for your home are actually to their benefit.
If you are trying to help a parent, also ruled by the fourth house of home, you may encounter some resistance from your sibling or others in the family. Uranus and Mars will both be bound tightly together, and both planets will be in hard 90-degree angle to Saturn, Jupiter, and the Sun, which suggests a compromise or tweak will be necessary.
You may wish you could enact your plan for your property or for your parent in the purest way you planned it, but sometimes dynamic tension like this creates discussion and a better idea comes to the surface. You are a fixed sign, so having to change a plan does not come easily—your natural inclination is to resist, but with the tug-of-war going on between Mars/Uranus and Jupiter/Saturn/the Sun, you seem not to have a choice. Family seems to be very vocal, and you may be surprised at that.
If you are trying to get money back from a contractor who did not use best business practices, this month would not be the time to move ahead with your law suit. Mercury rules your eighth house of other people’s money, the house that rules the money that would get if the courts settled the case in your favor. February would be a worse time to bring a suit, because Mercury will be retrograde from January 30 to February 20. Early March would be the right time, so wait until the first week of March to bring your dishonest contractor to justice.
Now let’s look at the new moon January 12 in Capricorn, 23 degrees. This new moon falls in your twelfth house, a good time to start work on a secret, competitive project. Any assignment that comes up will require that you speak to no one about it. Also at this new moon, Neptune in your second house of earned income will be quite helpful to your progress. If you are working on a home design project, Neptune, as the planet of artistic expression, will offer you design ideas that will create a soothing and quite beautiful environment. Neptune in Pisces will support the Sun, new moon, and Pluto. Wow! That suggests your choices will please you.
You appear to still be in the planning stage for home or family, and as you get closer to mid-to-end of the month, it would not be a good time to make a final decision. Mercury retrograde in Aquarius will be coming close, starting January 30 and ending February 20. You will start to feel the slowdown of Mercury retrograde as soon as January 17, and after it goes direct, wait until early March to swing into action.
This new moon of January 12 will be perfect for working on any project that would require you do intense research in a place away from co-workers (even by phone) who will interrupt your time. Working in solitude, off by yourself, will yield the best results.
The days and weeks after January 12 will also be an ideal time for reflection and planning for your new birthday year coming up soon. Drive into the country to a remote location or bed-and-breakfast where you can work unimpeded.
Some readers have reported stress, anxiety, or substance dependence brought on by sudden changes caused by the pandemic. If you have been feeling depressed, overwhelmed, or isolated, you can find a qualified therapist who might suggest you start to get to know one another by video conference. My choice would be to begin on the new moon in Capricorn January 12, plus ten days—within that period, make your appointment. That new moon will appear in your twelfth house of the subconscious. With Jupiter in Aquarius, you can be free of what is hurting you. Jupiter is the great healer, and as said before, the planet of miracles.
Now let’s turn to the most important moment of the month, January 28, the full moon in Leo, 9 degrees. This full moon will ask you to make a decision about a close relationship. Your decision may center on your feelings about your spouse or a steady who you date seriously. This moment of the month appears to be quite stressful, only because your ruler, Uranus, still traveling with Mars, will challenge the full moon in Leo and the three heavenly bodies—the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn—in Aquarius. You might walk into a tense situation by accident and feel broadsided by a highly emotional response. This full moon is a hot one, so treat everyone gingerly, with kid gloves.
Here is where the universe starts speaking in riddles—and wants to help you! The full moon is January 28, but it also has the most harmonious and beneficial aspect possible, the Sun and Jupiter conjunct in Aquarius at 9 degrees.
The Sun rules your partnership and marriage seventh house, so the Sun will give its blessings in the very same place that the full moon is falling. The full moon is tense, but this aspect is one of the sweetest ones possible (I told you the universe was talking in riddles). This tells me that you can untangle any challenge that comes up from a romantic or business partner or serious collaborator such as an agent, manager, accountant, lawyer, publicist, and so forth.
Stay with me—the conjunction of the Sun and Jupiter is one of supreme aspects of happiness and reward, and it will occur in Aquarius, your solar first house. That will make you luckier than a Leprechaun. (Don’t gamble though. This aspect points to great rewards and opportunity but not from gambling or from buying lotto tickets.)
If your birthday falls on January 28, plus or minus five days, you will get a double dip of rewards, for this aspect will fall on your solar return, that is, the return of the Sun to the place it occupied at your birth. This is an important point in astrology—those fortunate early Aquarians born near January 28 will have an entire year of outstanding, sunny luck. You must take full advantage of this aspect or lose it.
Jupiter conjunct the Sun in Aquarius will not happen again until February 2, 2033.
This year, if your birthday falls between January 23 to February 2, you have hit the happiness jackpot. You need to launch a big idea this year—the force will be with you! While those Aquarians born in late January or first days of February will be showered in golden luck, all Aquarians will feel the glow. It’s your Emerald Year!
If you have Aquarius rising or the natal moon in Aquarius, 9 degrees, in each case, plus or minus five degrees, you, too, will be celebrating good news. See if you have a natal planet in Aquarius, Gemini, Libra, Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius at 9 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. If you have such a particular natal planet, it will light up and go the distance to help you.
Last month was a big one. Two major planets—good-fortune Jupiter and teacher planet Saturn—both moved into Aquarius for a long stay. Jupiter has not been in your sign since 2009, and this is very good news, for Jupiter will work to protect you throughout most of 2021. Saturn will ready you for a bigger role in life, to tackle goals that would have been beyond your ability to handle until now. Saturn will be with you until March 2023.
Mars has been in a sign that blends well with yours, Aries, your communication sector, so you may have been writing, speaking, or handling mountains of email, and you seem to have been content to work on your various communications-oriented projects. Now, on January 6, Mars will move out of Aries, where it has been since June 27, 2020.
Your new focus with Mars in Taurus from January 6 to March 3 will be on your home and the needs of your family. There are any number of ways this may work out. You may move to a new residence. If you decide to rent a vacation cottage, start searching now, far in advance of when you’d use it. Or you may declutter, order repairs or maintenance, paint or renovate, or the most fun—decorate. If your home is just fine as it is, you may be moved to help a parent and keep a closer eye on your mother, father, or other older beloved relative.
Most of the month, you will be working behind the scenes, keeping a low profile. It appears you’ve been working on a project that required concentration. Soon, however, you will be in the spotlight—the moment the Sun rolls out of your twelfth house, an area of privacy and work behind closed doors, and into your first house of the horoscope, which will happen January 19.
Keep in mind that Mercury is about to retrograde in Aquarius on January 30 until February 20. You should not sign papers during that time, especially as you get anywhere close to either of those dates. So many readers rush to sign, say, on January 29 or February 21, for example, but Mercury is at his most mischievous during the start and end dates of the retrograde.
Aquarius rules the digital age, so the coming retrograde may be especially hard on electronics, software, and machines. If you need to buy a new electronic item, do so early in January, prior to mid-month for best results. Be sure all your data is being backed up, and insert new software early in the month—never while Mercury is out of phase.
Financially you are doing well, especially mid-month with projects and offers that come up after the new moon, January 12. You are just cranking up, though—wait until you see how well you do in May, June, and July 2021. It’s just the beginning, dear Aquarius.
Your most special day will be January 28 when the Sun and Jupiter, planet of good fortune, will meet in conjunction in Aquarius. This should be a glorious day, for this aspect is one I call the Luckiest Day of the Year. You will be in the spotlight, and if your birthday falls on this day (or within five days of this date), you will get a double dip of pleasure not only then, but throughout the year. This aspect is considered the very best for finding love in the coming year, as well as for opportunities to advance through the help of the highly placed individuals you will meet in the coming year. Once the pandemic ends, you will be able to travel far and wide too, but for now, be patient—the best part of life is on the way.
Dear Aquarius, did you read your very special report I wrote for you in December (last month)? It runs 6,700 words, and we will keep it up another month. Look for View Previous Month on my Internet site, and consider printing it out. In it I lay out the entire year for you. You are entering your glittering Emerald Year, and I want you to have all the data you need to make it a big success. Once we take down December at the end of January it will be gone forever, disbursing into the air like perfume and vanishing. (We only keep two months up on my servers or my app at a time.) You may want to refer to it once in a while to get the picture of 2021. You are going to do so well! Are you excited yet? I am excited for you!
